Ein anderes Duisburg

“Ein Anderes Duisburg” is a web documentary about racism, migration and solidarity. Using historical documents, photos and video interviews with contemporary witnesses, the web documentary archives haunting experiences of migration, flight, racism and anti-Semitism as well as resistance and self-organization in solidarity. In various episodes, unheard stories become visible and audible.

The color design of the website is based on cassette covers by musicians that were popular with guest workers in the Ruhr area in the 1950s and 1960s. The story is framed narratively from the perspective of the fictional protagonist Cema (illustrated by Irem Kurt). Typographically, it is staged in “Arbeiter Neue Mono”, a font in which the typographer Murathan Biliktü processes his grandfather's experiences as a migrant worker.
